WANDERLEY<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1935<\/strong><br \/>\nBorn in Irajuba, Bahia, on December 25.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1952-1956<\/strong><br \/>\nWhile living in Ipia\u00fa (Bahia), Evandro meet Valter Lessa (1932-), his first photography instructor, in whose laboratory he discovers the greatest Brazilian photojournalists, while flipping through <em>O Cruzeiro<\/em> magazine. One of them, Jos\u00e9 Medeiros (1921-1990), with whom with whom he take a correspondence course in photography, becomes his mentor and greatest influence.<\/p>\n<p>He moves to Salvador and becomes an intern at the <em>Di\u00e1rio de Not\u00edcias <\/em>newspaper in Bahia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1957<\/strong><br \/>\nHe disembarks in Rio de Janeiro and begins his professional career the following year in the <em>Di\u00e1rios Associados<\/em> newspapers in Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1961<\/strong><br \/>\nHe starts working for the magazine <em>Mundo Ilustrado<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1962<\/strong><br \/>\nHe joins the Di\u00e1rios de Not\u00edcias team, and covers the World Cup in Chile, the first of several World Cups he will photograph.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1963<\/strong><br \/>\nHe joins <em>Jornal do Brasil<\/em> (<em>JB<\/em>), where he works until 2010. The editor-in-chief was Alberto Dines (1932-2018), who remained in office until 1973. Initially he integrates the photojournalism team, led by Dilson Martins and later, by Alberto Ferreira Lima (1932-2007).<\/p>\n<p>On April 30, a photograph signed by him is published on the cover of <em>JB<\/em>. It depicted a horse race at the Pan American Games in Sao Paulo. It was considered one of the best sports photos of the year by the newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>He is the photographer of the series \"Bloqueio no mar\" [Blockage at Sea], for which reporter Jos\u00e9 Gon\u00e7alves Fontes (1934-2000) receive the Esso Hors Concours Journalism Award in 1964.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1964<\/strong><br \/>\nHe gets married to Marly Caldas, a primary school teacher, with whom he has daughters Carina (1964-) and Adryana (1968-).<\/p>\n<p>On March 13, he photographed the rally in Central do Brasil, with the presence of the First Lady, Maria Thereza (1936-), and President Jo\u00e3o Goulart (1919-1976), who would be deposed from power a few weeks later. He portrays the military coup of 1964 by producing an iconic image, the takeover of the Copacabana Fort, published on the cover of <em>JB<\/em> on April 2, 1964.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1965-1966<\/strong><br \/>\nIn these years, he take two of his most outstanding photographs. The first, <em>Fall of the FAB Motorcyclist<\/em>, was the <em>JB<\/em> cover of September 18, 1965. The second, <em>Bayonets and Dragonflies<\/em>, was the <em>JB<\/em> cover of May 22 and 23, 1966.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1967<\/strong><br \/>\nA solo exhibition with his work is held at the Berlin International Fair in Germany.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1968<\/strong><br \/>\nThroughout the year, he photographs the major student demonstrations, such as the seventh-day mass of the student Edson Lu\u00eds on April 4, murdered at the Calabou\u00e7o restaurant on March 28; the Bloody Friday, on June 21; and the Hundred Thousand March on June 26. He photographs the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda (1904-1973) and his wife Matilde Urrutia (1912-1985) during their visit to Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>He participates in the coverage of Queen Elizabeth II\u00b4s (1926-2022) only trip to Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>During this year, he begins to collaborate with various articles from the <em>JB<\/em> fashion editor.<\/p>\n<p>On December 13, he photographs the military apparatus in front of the Laranjeiras Palace, where the Institutional Act no. 5 was signed. Due to the censorship, the photo was not shown until 40 years later, in the exhibition<em> IA(s) Never Again \u2013 Images that Brazil Did Not See or Forget<\/em>, at Caixa Cultural, in Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1969<\/strong><br \/>\nOn May 30, at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, an exhibition of works selected for the 6th Paris Biennial, including Teixeira\u2019s photographs, was dismantled hours before the opening by order of the Cultural Department of the Ministry of International Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>He receives the prize of the Inter-American Press Society (Miami, United States).<\/p>\n<p><strong>1972<\/strong><br \/>\nHe participates in the collective exhibition <em>The Unknown Photographer<\/em>, at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of S\u00e3o Paulo in November and December.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1973<\/strong><br \/>\nHe and the reporter Paulo C\u00e9sar de Ara\u00fajo (1943-1987) are sent by <em>JB<\/em> to Chile, where they stay for about 20 days to cover the military coup of September 11.<\/p>\n<p>He is the first member of the press to know that Pablo Neruda had been taken ill from his home on Isla Black, El Quisco, to the Santa Mar\u00eda Clinic in Santiago. He is the only one to photograph Neruda dead in the hospital. He also documents the mourning in La Chascona, the writer\u2019s residence in Santiago, as well as the procession and the funeral.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1975<\/strong><br \/>\nHe receives the Nikon International Contest Award (Japan), which he will win again in 1991.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1978<\/strong><br \/>\nHe covers the Jonestown Massacre, orchestrated by Pastor Jim Jones (1931-1978) in Guyana, where more than 900 people committed suicide.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1979<\/strong><br \/>\nHe participates in collective exhibition <em>Veneza 79 \u2013 Hecho en Latino-America<\/em> in Italy with Claudia Andujar (1931-) and Geraldo de Barros (1923-1988).<\/p>\n<p>He records the birthday of the poet Vinicius de Moraes (1913-1980) at the Carreta Steakhouse in Ipanema, with the musicians Tom Jobim (1927-1994) and Chico Buarque (1944-) lying on the tables.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1980<\/strong><br \/>\nHe participates in the coverage of Pope John Paul II\u2019s (1920-2005) trip to Brazil.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1983<\/strong><br \/>\nThe book <em>Evandro Teixeira \u2013 Photojournalism<\/em> is published, with prefaces by Carlos Drummond de Andrade (1902-1987), Antonio Callado (1917-1997), and Otto Lara Resende (1922-1992).<\/p>\n<p>An exhibition of his photos opens at GB Arte in Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1988<\/strong><br \/>\nHe participates in coverage of the Seoul Olympics, one of several Olympic Games that he has photographed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1989<\/strong><br \/>\nA wink that Ayrton Senna (1960-1994) gave to McLaren boss Ron Dennis (1947-), just before winning the pole-position at the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix, has been recorded forever. The photo was on the cover of the March 26, 1991 issue of <em>JB<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition <em>Evandro Teixeira: Photographien<\/em> is being held at the Klaus Littmann Gallery in Basel, Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1992<\/strong><br \/>\nHe captured a reserved and discreet Ayrton Senna dancing samba during the Samba School Parade in Rio de Janeiro. The photo became a <em>JB<\/em> cover and was published in newspapers around the world.<\/p>\n<p>He participates in the collective exhibition <em>Brazil of Brazilians<\/em> at the Zurich Museum of Fine Arts, Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>In the city of Apraz\u00edvel, Cear\u00e1, he produces another of his iconic photos, of a couple on a bicycle taking their three-month-old son to be buried. The following year, the photo, titled <em>Burial of an Angel<\/em>, won the UNESCO Special Award in the International Contest \"Family\" in Japan.<\/p>\n<p>He covers the ECO-92, held in Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994<\/strong><br \/>\nHis resume is included in the Swiss Encyclopedia of Photography, which profiles the most important photographers in the world are recorded.<\/p>\n<p>In Minas Gerais, he photographs Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (1945-) with children forming the letter L with their fingers, the symbol of the presidential campaign of the Workers\u2019 Party candidate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1995<\/strong><br \/>\nHe follows President Fernando Henrique Cardoso (1931-) on a trip to Asia and Europe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1997<\/strong><br \/>\nAt the initiative of the Museum of Image and Sound, he leaves his hand and signature on the Wall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p>Publication of the book <em>Canudos, 100 Years<\/em>, with text by Ivana Bentes (1964-) and a preface by Antonio Callado; and opening of the exhibition with the same title at BNDES Space, in Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2000<\/strong><br \/>\nHe and Sebasti\u00e3o Salgado (1944-) are the only Brazilians to participate in the collective exhibition <em>Magical Moments II<\/em>, promoted by Leica in New York.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2002<\/strong><br \/>\nPhotographs taken by him are published in the first edition of the <em>Photography Notebooks<\/em> of Instituto Moreira Salles, dedicated to the Canudos War.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2004<\/strong><br \/>\nPremiere of the documentary <em>Evandro Teixeira: Snapshots of Reality<\/em> (2003), directed by Paulo Fontenelle (1970-). An exhibition with the same title is held at the Federal Justice Cultural Center.<\/p>\n<p>Publication of the book <em>I Shall Live: A Tribute to the Poet Pablo Neruda<\/em>, with ten poems by Neruda, text by Fritz Utzeri (1945-2013) and photographs taken by Evandro at the time of the writer's death in 1973.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2005<\/strong><br \/>\nThe <em>Canudos, 100 Years<\/em> exhibition is held at the Photo Visions Gallery, in Montpellier, as part of the Year of Brazil in France program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2006<\/strong><br \/>\nHe gives an interview for the series <em>Testimonial to Posterity<\/em> of the Image and Sound Museum of Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2007<\/strong><br \/>\nHe participates in the parade of the samba school Unidos da Tijuca, whose plot was \"From Little to Little, Tijuca Gives a Click on the Avenue\". He becomes head of the <em>JB<\/em> photography department.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2008<\/strong><br \/>\nThe book <em>1968 Destinations 2008 \u2013 The March of the100,000<\/em> is published with the presence of the participants of the march of June 26, 1968. Teixeira photographs each person in the same place where they were photographed on the day of the demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>He participates in the exhibition <em>MAM 60 Years<\/em>, with works that would be presented at the Paris Pre-Biennial in 1969. The exhibition is the winner of the Marcantonio Vila\u00e7a Prize for Fine Arts, the purpose of which is the acquisition of Teixeira\u2019s photographs for the museum.<\/p>\n<p>The commemorative edition of the book <em>Vidas Secas<\/em>, by Graciliano Ramos (1892-1953) is published on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its original publication, with exclusive photographs made by Teixeira.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2010<\/strong><br \/>\nHe wins the State Culture Prize of Rio de Janeiro in the category of Registry.<\/p>\n<p>On August 22, Teixeira's last photo shoot for <em>JB<\/em> is published, <em>There Is Light at the End of the Cave<\/em>, about the pilgrimage to Bom Jesus da Lapa, Bahia.<\/p>\n<p>After 47 years of collaboration, he resigned from the newspaper.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2011<\/strong><br \/>\nHe wins the Comunique-se Award in the category of Best Image Reporter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2012<\/strong><br \/>\nTogether with Orlando Brito (1950-2022), Rog\u00e9rio Reis (1954-) and Igo Estrela, he photographs the Quarup Festival in the Yawalapiti community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2013<\/strong><br \/>\nThe solo exhibition <em>Leaden Time, Bossa Time<\/em> opens at Galeria Tempo, Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n<p>Together with 18 other photojournalists, he participates in the exhibition <em>Brazilian Photojournalists<\/em>: <em>from Bossa Nova to Global Power<\/em>, at the UN in New York.<\/p>\n<p>He participates in the collective exhibitions <em>A Glance over Brazil <\/em>and <em>Resisting Is a Must<\/em>, both at the Tomie Ohtake Institute, in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2014<\/strong><br \/>\nThe exhibition <em>Down with the Dictatorship \u2013 A Photographic Suite of Evandro Teixeira<\/em> opens at the Afro Brasil Museum in S\u00e3o Paulo,<\/p>\n<p>The book <em>Evandro Teixeira \u2013 A Certain Look, <\/em>by Silvana Costa Moreira, is published.<\/p>\n<p>He participates in the collective exhibition <em>Soccer, Brazilian Passion<\/em>, at the Paris City Hall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2015<\/strong><br \/>\nThe book <em>Evandro Teixeira \u2013 Portraits of Time \u2013 50 Years of Photojournalism<\/em> is published by Bazar do Tempo.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition <em>Evandro Teixeira \u2013 The Constitution of the World<\/em>, curated by Marcia Mello and Paulo Herkenhoff, opens at the Rio Art Museum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2016<\/strong><br \/>\nHe wins the Brazil Photography Award 2015, in the Special category.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2019<\/strong><br \/>\nHe is honored by ArtRio, in Rio de Janeiro, with an exhibition curated by Marcia Mello.<\/p>\n<p>His work, with more than 150,000 photographs, goes to the guard of the Instituto Moreira Salles. His first cameras, a telephoto device, magazines, books, newspapers and exhibition catalogs are also added to the IMS collection.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2021<\/strong><br \/>\nWith the photo <em>Fa<\/em><em>mily at the Funeral<\/em>, he is one of 12 artists participating in the exhibition <em>On the Other Side<\/em>, a show of panels installed in the streets of Lisbon, Portugal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2022<\/strong><br \/>\nHe is the honoree of the 18th Paraty in Focus Festival.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2023<\/strong><br \/>\nInauguration of the exhibition <em>Evandro Teixeira.
