Though samba is an invention involving many voices, throughout the decades, there has been a rise in samba culture of tutelary characters who are revered, even internationally, for consolidating and disseminating a culture’s collective memory. Treated as nobility, which they did indeed represent, they earned the coveted moniker “flowers in life”, an expression created by one of them, Guilherme de Brito, to poetically summarize the acknowledgement of a life and a work.
