Koudelka

Gypsies, Invasion 1968, Exiles

The exhibition presents three of the most iconic works by Josef Koudelka, one of the great representatives of the humanist tradition of photography. A tireless traveller, he turned photojournalism into an extensive, multi-layered personal testimony. These three series are now recognised as classics of world photography: the images of Gypsies convey respect for an ethnic group that, on the fringes of mainstream society, has preserved its own spontaneous attitude to life. Prague 1968 was intended as a reminder of all unarmed resistance to the military power of totalitarian regimes, and the works in Exiles are the personal expression of a photographer who lost his homeland but gained his freedom.

This exhibition includes depictions of violence and nudity.
Not recommended for children under 12.
