Stefania Bril

Disobedience through affection

This Sunday, October 6th, the day of the first round of city elections, IMS Paulista will be closed to the public.

The exhibition Stefania Bril: disobedience through affection, curated by Ileana Pradilla Ceron and Miguel Del Castillo, is the first dedicated to the photographer and critic in the past 30 years. Stefania Bril, a Polish native who arrived in Brazil in 1950, produced around 11,000 frames between 1969 and 1980, which, along with her archive, are part of the IMS collection. Her work challenges traditional photography values, revealing a critical and empathetic view that sees the modern city as failed and bets on affection as resistance. The exhibition is divided into six sections covering themes such as the city, its inhabitants, her work as a critic, and a biographical narrative.
